Punjab Government to Host Traditional Ghora Mandi Fair at Muktsar Showcasing Equine Heritage

The Punjab government is organizing the traditional ‘Ghora Mandi’ cattle and horse fair at Muktsar during Maghi, highlighting the state’s rich rural heritage and livestock sector. Spanning 70 acres, the fair will feature prized horse breeds like Marwari and Nukra, attracting breeders, traders, and animal enthusiasts from across the region. Comprehensive arrangements, including a temporary veterinary dispensary and a 40-member medical team, have been made to ensure animal health and prevent disease spread.

Animal husbandry minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian emphasized the cultural significance of the event and urged farmers to bring only healthy animals, advising those with sick livestock to seek veterinary guidance before attending. Principal secretary Rahul Bhandari noted that the fair aims to boost the rural economy and promote trade, making it a vital platform for Punjab’s thriving livestock industry.
