Public Invited to Comment on Proposed Bicycle and Horse Riding Rule at Mammoth Cave National Park

The public is invited to provide feedback on a proposed rule change at Mammoth Cave National Park that would amend regulations for bicycle and horseback riding. If approved, the superintendent would be authorized to permit bicycle use on approximately 37 miles of multi-use trails, including new trails to be constructed, and allow horseback riding on the 5.4-mile Houchin Ferry North/Ollie Ridge Road. Comments are being accepted until April 10 via the federal register website.

The proposal also includes removing the Maple Springs Connector Trail and the White Oak Trail from the list of bicycle-designated trails, while retaining the Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail. This preferred alternative was identified through the Land and Rivers Trail Management Plan initiated in 2022, with an assessment indicating no significant environmental impact from the changes.
