PS5 Power Saver Mode Rumored as a Trojan Horse for Upcoming PS6 Handheld Device

Sony’s recent PS5 Power Saver mode, introduced to reduce energy consumption and support carbon neutrality, is under speculation for a deeper purpose. Hardware analyst “Moore’s Law Is Dead” (MLID) claims to have seen developer documentation suggesting that the Power Saver mode aligns closely with the rumored specs of an upcoming PS6 handheld device. This has fueled the theory that the Power Saver feature is a “Trojan horse,” subtly preparing developers and the system for the new portable platform, despite limited current user adoption of the mode.

Further supporting this theory, MLID references an email from a supposed Sony developer about a new initiative called PlayGo, which allows dynamic scaling of game assets based on the hardware, including support for Power Saver mode. This capability, while seemingly unnecessary for power saving on PS5, fits the narrative of preparing for a handheld device sharing the PS6’s library. While these claims are based on unverified leaks and rumors, the consensus is leaning toward Sony launching a PS6 handheld, with official details and pricing still awaited.
