Private Harry, once an unbeaten sprinter and Yulong’s initial choice for The Everest, has been withdrawn from the $20 million race following disappointing performances and signs of lameness. After a fifth-place finish in the Premiere Stakes and a first-up defeat in The Shorts, trainer Nathan Doyle reported concerns about the horse’s health, prompting further veterinary assessment. Yulong COO Sam Fairgray expressed disappointment but emphasized prioritizing the horse’s well-being and indicated that the team is investigating the issue to determine the best path forward.
With Private Harry out, Yulong faces the challenge of finding a replacement for its Everest slot, potentially looking beyond its own breeding and racing stable. The stable already has two confirmed starters, Magic Time and Angel Capital, but these run under slots held by other parties. Yulong recently acquired a stake in Manikato Stakes winner Charm Stone, who is a likely candidate for the vacancy. Discussions are underway to finalize a suitable substitute for the October 18 race at Randwick, amid a competitive field including new entrants like Jedibeel and War Machine from other major racing operations.
