Princess Catharina-Amalia Returns to Public Engagement After Arm Surgery Following Horse Riding Accident

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands made a public appearance just eight days after undergoing surgery for a broken upper arm sustained in a horse-riding accident. She joined her father, King Willem-Alexander, at the Prince Bernhard Barracks in Amersfoort, where the King presented a new standard to the Regiment Huzaren Prinses Catharina-Amalia. Despite her injury, which required her arm to be bandaged and in a sling, the 21-year-old Princess expressed that she was still in pain and would not be able to ride horses again anytime soon.

The Princess, an avid horse rider, has previously spoken about her strong bond with horses and the importance of caring for them personally. She has experienced other riding injuries, including a dislocated shoulder, and embraces the challenges of the sport with resilience, quoting, “You’re not an Amazon until you’ve fallen seven times.” Her recent accident and recovery have been closely followed by the Dutch Royal House, which confirmed the successful surgery and her ongoing monitoring at UMC Utrecht.
