A severely emaciated pregnant mare named Jean was rescued after being found in a field with poisonous ragwort, suffering from ragwort poisoning, painful sores, and overgrown hooves. Despite urgent veterinary care and careful feeding at World Horse Welfare’s Penny Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre, Jean’s foal was stillborn a few weeks after her arrival due to her weakened condition.
With no owner coming forward, Jean has been signed over to the charity and is now receiving expert care as she begins her recovery. The charity hopes that once she regains her strength, Jean will be rehomed and given a fresh start.
