Pony Seized for Neglect to Be Returned to Owner Despite Rescue Group’s Concerns

A pony named RC, previously seized due to severe neglect and near death, is being returned to its original owner following a court order in Clinton County, Michigan. Horses’ Haven, the rescue group caring for RC, expressed deep concern over the decision, highlighting the pony’s critical condition when rescued and the death of another horse from the same owner. Despite RC’s significant recovery under their care, the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office ruled that RC should be returned, citing veterinary and care records and the owners’ long-term relationship with the pony, along with plans for regular monitoring by Animal Control.

The rescue’s Executive Director, Kristine Dvonch, remains skeptical about the owners’ ability to provide adequate care, emphasizing that veterinary visits alone do not guarantee proper treatment. Although she has attempted to purchase RC to keep him safe, the owner declined. The Prosecutor’s Office assures that Animal Control will conduct frequent visits and intervene if necessary, with the owner covering the costs of RC’s care. Dvonch hopes for the best but fears for RC’s wellbeing once he returns home.
