A pony was fatally struck by a car on Rover Way, a busy road in Cardiff, after reportedly wandering the area for several days. Anna Mason from Anna’s Rescue Centre responded to the incident on March 6, but despite efforts and veterinary intervention, the pony could not be saved. The rescue centre highlighted that this was one of roughly 20 similar cases in recent months along the same road, where ponies and horses—often tethered and inadequately cared for—are frequently found injured or dead.
Anna Mason criticized the practice of tethering horses, citing it as a cause of injury and neglect, and called for stronger legal protections. In response to the ongoing issue, she has launched a Senedd petition advocating for a ban on tethering horses and better support for neglected animals. The petition emphasizes the suffering of tethered horses, many of which lack shelter, food, water, and veterinary care, and has already gained significant public support with over 2,000 signatures.
