Ponoka 4-H Renegade Riders Celebrate 40 Years with Bottle Drive to Fund Equine Clinic

The Ponoka 4-H Renegade Riders are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a bottle drive fundraiser to support a two-day equine clinic for local 4-H youth. Led by long-time leader Laurie Montgomery, the fundraiser aims to reduce participant costs by bringing in four professional instructors to provide hands-on horse-related education at the Calnash Ag Event Centre in Ponoka. The clinic is open to 4-H members from the West Central region, with collaboration from the Silver Valley club to broaden opportunities.

Beyond horsemanship, the 4-H program teaches valuable life skills such as public speaking, horse care, bookkeeping, meeting management, and community service. Montgomery emphasizes the importance of providing youth with outlets to express their passion for horses and develop these skills. Residents can support the initiative by donating bottles, with convenient pickup available by contacting Montgomery or Penny before the campaign ends on Saturday. Youth interested in joining the club can also reach out to Montgomery for more information.
