Ponies Rescued from Gelligaer Common Show Progress Despite Liver Disease at Redwings

A group of ponies rescued from Gelligaer Common in South Wales due to concerns over their welfare are being treated for liver disease and worm-related damage at Redwings Horse Sanctuary. The rescued group includes two mares and their foals, plus another colt foal. While one mare sadly had to be euthanized after her condition worsened, the others, including a mare named Bonnie and foals Tyler, Tom, and Jones, are showing signs of improvement thanks to veterinary care and are now living on grass pastures at Redwings’ Hapton site.

Redwings’ head of welfare, Nic de Brauwere, emphasized that although the ponies are still receiving ongoing medication and close monitoring, their prognosis is increasingly positive. The charity has extensive experience working with feral ponies and credits its supporters for enabling them to provide a permanent home and continued care for these animals. The ponies remain under careful observation as they recover, with their future secured by the sanctuary’s dedicated efforts.
