Police in North Ayrshire have issued a reminder to motorists following reports of a man driving erratically while attempting to overtake a horse rider in Dalry on April 27. This incident has prompted authorities to reiterate the importance of adhering to the Highway Code when overtaking.
The Highway Code specifies that overtaking horse riders or horse-drawn vehicles should only occur when it is safe and legal. Motorists are advised to execute such maneuvers at speeds under 10 mph and to maintain a minimum distance of two meters from the rider or vehicle.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland emphasized the need for extra caution when overtaking vulnerable road users, particularly in adverse weather conditions or at night. They urged drivers to wait until it is safe to pass, ensuring they can meet the required clearances.
