Sgt. Ted Lewis of the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department rescued a miniature horse named April that was running loose on a busy highway. Lewis quickly formed a bond with the horse and decided to adopt her after she had escaped from a rescue farm just one day after being surrendered.
The police department posted a photo of Lewis and April on social media, joking that the horse was the first member of its “mounted unit” for April Fools’ Day. However, the joke turned out to be true when Lewis decided to give April a forever home at a farm associated with the police department.
Rescue worker Penny Parker was thrilled with the adoption, calling it the perfect ending to April’s story. Parker had been searching for the missing horse and was relieved to find out that the police department had located her and that Lewis had decided to adopt her.
