PBR Launches Rider Development Program to Train Safer, Stronger Bull Riders

The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) organization is revolutionizing bull riding through its new rider development program, which introduces a standardized, repeatable curriculum designed to train bull riders as athletes rather than just focusing on riding technique. Developed with input from experts like Joe Frost, the program includes innovative drills that can be done without specialized equipment, biomechanical testing to identify and correct physical asymmetries, and safety training such as proper dismount techniques and concussion protocols. This holistic approach aims to build stronger, safer, and more marketable athletes, addressing the challenge that bull development has outpaced rider training.

In addition to improving performance and safety, the PBR plans to launch a “bull-riding combine” to spotlight top high school and college riders, helping coaches identify emerging talent. The broader vision is to position PBR as a global leader in athlete development by equipping riders with the tools and support needed for success both inside and outside the arena. Ultimately, the program seeks to ensure the next generation of bull riders can thrive in a rapidly evolving sport with increasing prize money and tougher competition.
