Paul Ridgeon, who passed away at 93, was a prominent figure in the eventing world, known for owning top horses like Armada and Cooley Rosalent. Born with a debilitating foot condition, he found solace and passion in horses, eventually becoming an amateur showjumper and equestrian show organizer. Beyond equestrian pursuits, Paul was a versatile entrepreneur involved in various ventures including floristry, property, printing, and organic fertiliser production. He notably modernized a printing business and invented a patented lawn sprayer, demonstrating resilience and innovation throughout his life.
In eventing, Paul’s legacy is marked by his keen eye for young horses and his supportive relationships with top riders such as Andrew Nicholson, Wiggy Fox-Pitt, and Oliver Townend. His horses achieved significant success at the highest levels of competition, with Armada completing 16 CCI5 events and Cooley Rosalent winning at every level, including the prestigious Kentucky CCI5 in 2024. Paul’s understanding of horses and sport, combined with his loyalty and friendship to riders, left a lasting impact on the eventing community.
