Patch Adams Retired to WinStar Farm for 2026 Breeding Season After Injury

Patch Adams, a multiple Grade 1-winning sprinter owned by WinStar Farm and CHC, has been retired due to an injury sustained in training—a lateral condylar fracture in his right hind leg that healed well. Although he could have continued racing, the decision was made to retire him to stand at stud at WinStar Farm for the 2026 breeding season, with his stud fee to be announced later. Trained by Brad Cox, Patch Adams quickly established himself as one of the top sprinters in the country, capturing back-to-back Grade 1 victories in the Woody Stephens and H. Allen Jerkens Memorial at Saratoga, showcasing exceptional speed and heart.

Bred by WinStar Farm from the leading sire Into Mischief and stakes-winning mare Well Humored, Patch Adams demonstrated remarkable talent early on, including a dominant 10 1/2-length maiden win at Churchill Downs as a two-year-old. Over his career, he won 4 of 7 starts, earning $772,585, and posted some of the fastest times at seven furlongs in the 2025 season. WinStar’s Elliott Walden highlighted Patch Adams’ genetics, race record, and conformation as ideal for a top stallion prospect, emphasizing the farm’s commitment to speed and the colt’s potential impact in breeding.
