Passing Down the Tradition: The Krull Family’s Legacy in Clay County’s 4-H Shooting Sports

The Krull family of Harvard has been involved in Clay County’s 4-H Shooting Sports since 1991, passing down the tradition to upcoming generations. Starting with horses, the Krulls have a long history of showing in 4-H, including horses and foods. The family has been dedicated to 4-H for years, participating in various activities and events.

The Marksmen Club, started by Chuck Burr about 40 years ago, is where shooting sports began, and the Krull family has been involved almost since the start. Burnell and Debbie Krull have been certified leaders for many years, with their son Dan and daughter-in-law Dawn also getting certified. The family’s dedication to shooting sports has been passed down to the next generation, with their daughter Milayna competing for the past three years.

Shooting sports in 4-H has evolved over the years, with more kids participating and changes in competition format. Kids practice for five weeks and then compete in different categories based on age. The leaders work with the kids on proper shooting techniques, safety, and stance. The Krull family, along with other volunteers and supporters, have been instrumental in the success of the program.
