More than €80,000 has been allocated to support nine agricultural shows across County Mayo this summer, with the largest grant of €10,700 awarded to the Bonniconlon Show. Other notable recipients include the Erris Agricultural Show (€10,000) and the Ballina Show (€9,200). This funding, announced by Minister Alan Dillon TD, aims to assist show committees in preparing for their events, which play a vital role in bringing rural communities together and showcasing local produce, livestock, and culture.
Nationally, over €1 million has been invested in 126 agricultural shows, reflecting the importance of these events to rural life and local economies. Both Minister Dillon and Deputy Keira Keogh emphasized the significant voluntary effort behind these shows and their value in supporting farming families and local businesses. The funding also helps committees manage rising costs while delivering safe, high-quality events, ensuring the continuation of these longstanding community traditions.
