Over 70 Starving Horses Rescued in Colorado, Shelter Seeks Public Help for Recovery

More than 70 horses, including foals and likely pregnant mares, were rescued from severe starvation and neglect on a rural Colorado property through a joint effort between law enforcement and Humane Colorado. The horses were transported to Humane Colorado’s Harmony Equine Center in Franktown, where many were found suffering from untreated injuries, infections, advanced lameness, and emotional trauma due to prolonged neglect and lack of food and medical care.

Humane Colorado is now caring for the horses but has been stretched thin by the scale of the rescue and is seeking public donations to support the animals’ extensive recovery needs. Funds will go toward emergency veterinary care, farrier treatment, nutritional support, and foaling assistance, as the shelter emphasizes the long road ahead to restore the horses to health and provide them with a better future.
