More than 100 cats were rescued from a Maryland home in Delmar during an investigation into alleged animal cruelty, with several cats found dead and many others in poor health, according to the Humane World for Animals and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. The cats were discovered in hazardous and unsanitary conditions both inside and outside the property, including sheds and outbuildings, with many underweight and suffering from respiratory infections. The rescue operation took place amid challenging winter weather, and the Humane World for Animals provided veterinary care and transportation for the cats to safer locations. The investigation is ongoing, and it remains unclear if charges will be filed.
This rescue follows previous large-scale animal rescues in Maryland, including over 100 dogs and puppies removed from a puppy mill in Harford County in August 2025, and nearly 60 rabbits rescued from an abandoned farm in Woodstock earlier that month. These cases similarly involved animals found in poor health and neglected conditions, highlighting ongoing concerns about animal welfare in the region.
