The Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) is set to enhance its NCC equestrian training program with the induction of two new horses, trained by the Indian Army, expected to arrive from New Delhi by February. This addition will expand horse-riding training opportunities for NCC cadets at the OUAT Veterinary Ground, which has been the sole equestrian training center in Odisha for 57 years and ranks 15th nationally. Currently, the stable houses 11 horses, primarily Indian and Thoroughbred breeds, maintained with proper care and medical supervision.
The new horses mark the first induction in 13 years, generating enthusiasm among the approximately 150 cadets who undergo equestrian training annually out of 200 NCC participants. The program plays a significant role in preparing cadets aspiring to join the armed forces, with five cadets and a trained horse from the unit selected each year to participate in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.
