Opposition Alleges Horse-Trading in Bihar Rajya Sabha Elections, Demands Anti-Defection Law Review

Opposition parties have accused the BJP-led NDA of “horse-trading” to secure all five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar, demanding a review of the anti-defection law amid allegations of using money power to break opposition ranks. Congress MP Manish Tewari and RJD MP Sudhakar Singh criticized the erosion of political morality and the misuse of money in elections, arguing that the anti-defection law is meant to prevent such defections unless supported by a two-thirds majority.

The BJP and its allies rejected these claims, blaming the opposition for failing to manage their legislators and not issuing a proper voting whip. BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal highlighted the opposition leaders’ absence during voting, while JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh and LJP MP Arun Bharti urged the opposition to introspect on their leadership failures. The NDA’s clean sweep included prominent leaders like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin, reflecting the alliance’s claimed unity and strength in the state.
