Despite an earlier cancellation, the Old Spanish Days rodeo will take place from August 1 to August 3 at the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian Center, thanks to a deal struck by rodeo Commissioner Chair Josiah Jenkins. All rodeo events will be free for the public, with a ticketed barbecue and dance event scheduled for Saturday night. Concurrently, the Earl Warren Showgrounds will host Santa Barbara rodeo Days featuring Professional rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) events and a carnival.
Ben Sprague, CEO of Earl Warren Showgrounds, expressed satisfaction that Old Spanish Days could organize an event for local equestrians and amateur competitors, despite the venue’s inability to host a local rodeo. He noted that both events serve the community’s desire for rodeo experiences, highlighting a significant local interest in such activities.
Old Spanish Days organizers emphasized that their event is the only official Fiesta rodeo, aiming to keep as much of the programming free to the public. El Presidente Fritz Olenberger and David Bolton, the division chief of external relations, reiterated their commitment to fostering local participation and community spirit, making the new venue a family-friendly environment that honors the tradition of the Fiesta rodeo.
