Old Friends Welcomes Major Blue, Final Horse Owned by Hall of Fame Trainer D. Wayne Lukas

Old Friends, a Thoroughbred retirement farm in Georgetown, Kentucky, has welcomed Major Blue, the final horse owned by Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Named after Lukas’s grandson, Major Blue was cherished by his owners and team for his heart and dedication on the track, embodying the true spirit of horse racing. Though not a superstar, Major Blue earned four wins and over $375,000 in 29 starts, including stakes appearances and a brief run on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Major Blue’s arrival at Old Friends not only ensures a loving retirement but also serves as a tribute to Lukas’s remarkable legacy in the sport. John Nicholson, President and CEO of Old Friends, highlighted that Major Blue’s presence will help share Lukas’s impactful story with visitors, celebrating both the horse and the legendary trainer’s contributions to the racing industry.
