Court documents reveal that in December in Jones, Oklahoma, thieves stole four horses worth about $120,000 by cutting a hole in a fence and taking the animals from a property. Kenneth Colston and Kaleb Wilson have been charged with larceny of domestic animals and conspiracy to commit a felony in connection with the crime. The owner of the animals contacted the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association after discovering the theft, and a special ranger with the association tracked down the suspects.
The police report noted that a security camera on the land was tampered with and went offline, leading to the investigation. Colston admitted to cutting the fence, and Wilson confessed to helping lead the horses to another property about 1.5 miles away. One of the stolen horses was traded at an auction in Spencer, but all four were eventually returned to their owner. Under Oklahoma law, the punishment for stealing horses is three to 10 years in jail or a fine equal to triple the value of the animals, not exceeding $500,000.
