Oconee Therapeutic Riding is hosting its annual 5K Lap of Love on August 23 at 8 a.m. at Briarwood Baptist Church, with registration costing $25 before August 8 and $30 afterward. The race course runs through the nearby Northwest Woods neighborhood, and a special Lap of Love event for children with special needs will follow at 9 a.m. for $10. Proceeds support Oconee Therapeutic Riding’s programs, which assist children and adults with special needs through therapeutic riding that improves physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Located at 1391 Jerusalem Road, Oconee Therapeutic Riding offers facilities including an arena, gated fields, and a nature trail, providing therapy for individuals with conditions such as anxiety, PTSD, autism, and schizophrenia. The nonprofit recently held a summer camp featuring creative activities and highlighted program director Heidi Maloy for her empathetic leadership in fostering an inclusive and healing environment.
