Oceana County 4-H is launching three new SPIN (Special Interest) Clubs designed to engage youth in hands-on learning experiences without long-term commitments or prior 4-H involvement. These clubs focus on building real-world skills, confidence, and community connections through short-term sessions. The Riding into Success Club at Paradise Ranch teaches horse care and riding skills, even in challenging winter conditions. The First Responders Club, hosted by the Walkerville Area Fire Department, offers high schoolers CPR and first aid certification and practical emergency response training, fostering leadership and teamwork. Meanwhile, the Growing Across Generations Gardening Club at the Oceana Council on Aging Community Garden connects youth with older adults through gardening and community service.
These programs are made possible through partnerships with local organizations and funding from The Gerber Foundation, MSU Extension, and the Michigan 4-H Foundation. By providing accessible, skill-building opportunities, Oceana County 4-H aims to help youth feel capable, valued, and connected, encouraging families and volunteers to get involved in strengthening both young people and the community.
