Founded in 1974, the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company (OBS) has seen significant growth and changes over the years, including the addition of a synthetic surface, expansion of the sales pavilion, and the introduction of digital sales through OBSOnline. OBS has become a leader in the juvenile market, selling more 2-year-olds than any other sales company in the world, in addition to holding yearling and mixed sales.
OBS has produced numerous successful graduates, including 33 Eclipse Award winners and 27 Breeders’ Cup winners. Notable graduates include Silver Charm, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 1997, and I’ll Have Another, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2012. OBS has also seen two Horses of the Year pass through its sales ring, including Skip Away and Favorite Trick.
The company has undergone renovations and modernizations over the years, including the installation of the SafeTrack surface in 2007 and a significant renovation in 2016 that expanded the sales pavilion. OBS launched its digital platform, OBSOnline, in 2024, allowing for online sales. Notable sales through OBS include Brave Raj, the first graduate to earn an Eclipse Award, and Conquistador, who set a record for the most expensive horse sold at OBS.
