Oaklawn Park resumes racing Thursday with a 10-race card headlined by the $150,000 Fifth Season Stakes for older horses at one mile. Originally scheduled for January 30 but postponed due to a winter storm, the race features a field of nine, though several top contenders including favorite Pony Express and Grade 3 winner Komorebino Omoide are expected to scratch. Speed King, the 5-2 second choice, aims for his second Oaklawn stakes win after a recent allowance victory and will be ridden by jockey Luis Saez from post 9.
Other notable entrants include Will Take It, winner of the $300,000 Hanshin Stakes, and Seize the Night, who won the $175,000 Tinsel Stakes earlier this year at Oaklawn. Trainers Cipriano Contreras, Sarah Shaffer, and David Jacobson each have horses in the race, with Shaffer’s American Law making his stakes debut. The race is set as the eighth on the card with a probable post time of 3:57 p.m. Central, following a delayed start to Oaklawn’s Classic season caused by severe winter weather.
