The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has canceled live racing at Aqueduct Racetrack from Wednesday through Friday this week due to forecasted arctic temperatures and dangerously low wind chills in the New York metropolitan area. In coordination with the Jockeys’ Guild, New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, and New York Thoroughbred Breeders, NYRA will seek approval from the New York State Gaming Commission to resume live racing on Wednesday, February 4, with additional make-up days to be scheduled later. Aqueduct will be closed to the public on Wednesday but will reopen for simulcast wagering on Thursday and Friday, with online betting available via NYRABets.com.
Races originally scheduled for the canceled days will be rescheduled as extras starting Sunday, February 1, with entries opening in the days prior. The $135,000 Ladies race, postponed twice, will now run on Saturday, January 31, and the $135,000 Interborough is set for Friday, February 6. The Aqueduct winter meet runs through March 30 and features key events like the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes, which offers Kentucky Derby qualifying points. Weather forecasts predict highs in the low 20s and lows near single digits, prompting the precautionary cancellations to ensure safety for participants and attendees.
