Notorious Gangster and Trainer Josie Carroll Aim for King’s Plate Glory at Woodbine

Notorious Gangster, a well-accomplished 3-year-old colt with two stakes wins and two placings in seven starts, is set to compete in the CA$1 million King’s Plate Stakes at Woodbine on August 16. Trained by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Josie Carroll, who has won the King’s Plate three times, Notorious Gangster is considered a strong contender in the 13-horse field. The colt has shown promise with recent performances including a win in the Queenston Stakes and a close second in the Plate Trial Stakes despite traffic issues, with jockey Fraser Aebly optimistic about a better result in the upcoming race.

Owned and bred by Mark Dodson, who is making his first King’s Plate appearance after 40 years in the sport, Notorious Gangster was named by Dodson’s son Leo, inspired by a Star Wars character. The King’s Plate is highly significant in Canadian racing, often compared to the Kentucky Derby, and both the Dodsons and Carroll are hopeful for a victory. Notorious Gangster faces stiff competition, including the favorite filly No Time, but his strong form and experienced team position him as a notable contender in the 166th running of the historic race.
