New Zealand Farrier Trevor Sazerland Supports Chernihiv Equestrian School with Horseshoeing Skills

Trevor Sazerland, a 71-year-old farrier from New Zealand, has volunteered to support the Derhachiv Children’s and Youth Equestrian School, which relocated to Chernihiv Oblast from Kharkiv Oblast. With nearly 30 years of experience shoeing horses worldwide, this is his first visit to Ukraine, where he shoes up to six horses daily and mentors a local stablehand in farriery skills. His work not only involves practical hoof care but also imparts patience, concentration, and resilience needed in the craft.

Sazerland’s contribution exemplifies international solidarity amid Ukraine’s ongoing challenges, helping preserve equestrian traditions and sports programs affected by war. By sharing his expertise and fostering local knowledge, he strengthens the equine community in Chernihiv Oblast and supports both children and animals, highlighting the importance of mutual aid during difficult times.
