New York State 4-H Launches Equine Ambassadors Program for Aspiring Leaders

The New York State 4-H Horse Program has launched the Equine Ambassadors Program, aimed at high school juniors and seniors across the state. This yearlong leadership initiative is designed to inspire youth to become future leaders in the equine industry, offering them opportunities to develop essential skills, build professional networks, and engage in hands-on learning experiences with industry professionals. Applications are currently open and are due by June 13, 2025, with no prior 4-H membership required.

Participants will enjoy various program highlights, including 3-4 overnight leadership events, participation at the NYS Fair, and training in resume building, public speaking, and career readiness. They will also receive mentorship from equine professionals and become part of a supportive community of peers who share a passion for horses and leadership. Graduates of the program will be recognized as official NYS 4-H Equine Ambassadors, prepared to represent the equine industry in their schools and communities.

Interested youth can apply by emailing Brieanna Hughes for the application form, which must include a completed application, cover letter, and letter of recommendation. The program is part of the broader NYS 4-H Equine Program, which connects youth with hands-on learning and career pathways in agriculture and animal science, supported by the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund.
