The New York State 4-H Horse Program, in collaboration with the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, has launched its inaugural Equine Ambassador Program to prepare high school students for careers in the equine industry. The first cohort of seven youth from New York and New England participated in a hands-on, immersive experience at Goshen Historic Track, learning harness racing skills, equine care, and leadership development. The program emphasizes workforce readiness, professional connections, and youth leadership, with ongoing training, public speaking, career exploration, and a capstone project throughout the year.
Developed by NYS 4-H and Cornell University, the Equine Ambassador Program aligns with 4-H’s mission of positive youth development in agriculture. Ambassadors gain practical skills and confidence to become future leaders in the horse industry and beyond. The program also encourages community engagement and media outreach to raise awareness about harness racing and youth opportunities. Interested partners are invited to collaborate with the NYS 4-H Horse Program to expand these initiatives.
