A group of ten young Black men from Harlem, known as One Strong Brotherhood (OSB), has gained global attention for their joyful and authentic social media videos where they try new activities—ranging from ballet and Pilates to horseback riding and cooking—while clapping and celebrating each other. Founded by 23-year-old Khadim Thiam and formed at Hunter College in 2023, OSB’s uplifting content challenges stereotypes and highlights Black joy as a powerful form of resilience and community. Their viral videos, starting with an enthusiastic matcha tasting, have amassed millions of views and led New York City to designate October as Black Boy Joy Month in their honor.
OSB’s message resonates deeply amid societal challenges such as racial profiling and grief, offering a safe space for emotional expression and validation. Child therapist Richelle Shorter praises their authenticity for inspiring others to embrace freedom and joy beyond societal constraints. Thiam, a first-generation American and computer science major, hopes to expand OSB’s impact globally, spreading a message of brotherhood, hope, and the importance of celebrating life fully despite adversity. Their story underscores that Black history and identity encompass not only struggle but also vibrant joy and mutual support every day.
