New York Forest Rangers Conduct Multiple Wilderness Rescues Across State

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Forest Rangers recently conducted multiple search and rescue missions across the state, assisting lost, injured, or distressed individuals in wilderness areas. Notable rescues included aiding a hiker with a head injury at Peekamoose Blue Hole in Ulster County, rescuing a horseback rider who was thrown and stepped on in Lewis County, and assisting an exhausted hiker on Hunter Mountain in Greene County by providing food, water, and medical evaluation. In Delaware County, Rangers helped a hiker with an unstable ankle injury, carrying them out for a medical flight to Albany Medical Center.

These incidents highlight the critical role Forest Rangers play in ensuring safety on New York’s state lands, emphasizing the importance of proper preparation for outdoor activities, such as bringing sufficient food and water. The DEC continues to encourage hikers to be well-prepared to prevent emergencies like dehydration and injuries during their excursions.
