New Owners Randy and Jenny Boyd Make Bold Entry into Thoroughbred Racing with $2.6M Gun Runner Filly and Promising Yearlings

New Thoroughbred owners Randy and Jenny Boyd made a notable entry into the racing industry at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale by purchasing two yearlings, including the top-priced Gun Runner filly for $2.6 million. The Tennessee couple, inspired by attending Kentucky Derbies and their love for sports and animals, currently have one racing horse, Tennessee Belle, a filly who recently won impressively at Saratoga. Guided by agents Billy Love and Brittany Linton, and trainers Paul Sharp and John Ortiz, the Boyds are actively involved in pinhooking—buying young horses to resell at a profit—and plan to expand their racing stable with both pinhooked and race-ready horses.

Beyond racing, the Boyds are deeply committed to philanthropy through the Boyd Foundation, supporting education, animal welfare, and the arts, with Randy serving as president of the University of Tennessee and Jenny active in local arts and business. Their sports experience includes co-owning six minor league baseball teams. Looking ahead, the Boyds intend to continue purchasing weanlings for pinhooking and yearlings for racing, building a sustainable presence in the Thoroughbred industry with trusted advisors and a focus on top-notch horse care.
