New Horse Lightning Joins Nuneaton Riding Centre Supporting Disabled Youth Through Award-Winning Scheme

A horse riding centre for the disabled in Nuneaton has acquired a new horse named Lightning, thanks to a £3,720 donation raised by Warwickshire Police Cadets during a 24-hour walk. Lightning has already started assisting young people and children through the Changing Lives Through Horses Scheme at the Nuneaton & North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre, where he is described as gentle and kind, positively impacting the participants.

The Changing Lives Through Horses programme, led by The British Horse Society, supports individuals aged 5 to 25, especially those with additional needs, by helping them develop life skills such as confidence, communication, teamwork, and responsibility through structured equestrian activities. Having supported 65 young people, the scheme recently won the BHS Coach Award 2025, with coach Sue Lynch expressing pride in witnessing participants grow and find new purpose through their engagement with the horses.
