New Colorado Laws Taking Effect August 6, 2025, Cover Wildfire Prevention, Worker Rights, and Firearm Waivers

Several new laws will take effect in Colorado on August 6, 2025, addressing diverse issues such as wildfire prevention, worker conditions, and firearm purchase waivers. Key legislation includes HB25-1009, which encourages local governments to reduce dead vegetation to mitigate wildfire damage, and HB25-1328, aimed at improving incomes and working conditions for home care workers by increasing the minimum wage to $17 per hour and enhancing training and labor standards enforcement. Additionally, laws like HB25-1184 support seniors by allowing community-based care in certain living facilities.

Other notable laws focus on streamlining Medicaid coverage and healthcare access, such as HB25-1162 and HB25-1213, which reduce administrative barriers and expand coverage options. SB25-034 introduces a voluntary waiver process for individuals to relinquish their right to purchase firearms, with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation denying transfers during the waiver period. Additional measures include requirements for online marketplaces to report suspected stolen goods and mandates for research facilities to offer pets for adoption before euthanasia. More details are available on the Colorado General Assembly’s website.
