New BEVA Seller’s Declaration Aims to Improve Horse Buying Transparency

The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has launched a new seller’s declaration document as part of its online pre-purchase examination (PPE) toolkit to improve transparency in horse sales. Unlike the previous version where vets asked sellers questions, this new form is completed by sellers beforehand, providing buyers with more detailed and reliable information to help decide whether to proceed with a PPE.

In other news, a cob named Mr Finn overcame multiple serious health issues, including arthritis and respiratory problems, to achieve success in British dressage competitions, demonstrating that even horses with significant challenges can excel. Additionally, a recent study published in Animal Welfare reveals that horse owners often experience cognitive dissonance, justifying practices harmful to equine welfare despite genuine concern for their horses, highlighting the gap between knowledge and practice influenced by tradition and competition pressures.
