Orange County, Florida, has opened a new nearly three-quarter-mile multiuse connector trail along the Lake Apopka Loop Trail, linking Orange and Lake counties. The $10 million project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for cyclists, runners, and horseback riders who previously had to navigate dangerous roadways. The trail’s opening drew significant community interest, with officials highlighting its role in providing a separated, safer space away from vehicle traffic.
The paved trail accommodates various recreational users, including equestrians, with education on trail etiquette provided by the county’s Parks and Recreation Department to ensure safe sharing of the space. County leaders and project designers expressed excitement about the trail’s completion, emphasizing its scenic setting and the hope that it will encourage more outdoor activity while improving connectivity between the two counties. The trail is free and open to the public.
