Nevada Youth Celebrate National 4-H Week with Expanded Programs and Activities

Nevada youth are celebrating “Go GREEN Day” to kick off the new 4-H year and National 4-H Week, highlighting the program’s expansion beyond traditional agriculture into diverse areas like robotics, self-defense, creative writing, and hot air ballooning. The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s 4-H program continues to adapt to both rural and urban youth, offering hands-on learning experiences such as wildlife management camps, gardening projects, and civic engagement activities. Events like the upcoming 4-H Kickoff in Reno provide opportunities for youth to meet leaders, participate in activities, and enroll in new programs.

This year’s unique initiatives include a Mustang Camp exploring wild horses and conservation, a Grow a Pizza program where children cultivated ingredients and made pizzas, and contributions to the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree with handmade ornaments representing Nevada’s heritage. With nearly 6 million youth nationwide, 4-H aims to foster leadership, confidence, and healthy living through affordable, meaningful educational experiences across Nevada, encouraging growth in the program’s four mission areas: head, heart, hands, and health.
