Nearly 600 Neglected Pigeons Rescued from Abandoned North Carolina Shed

Rescue teams in Greensboro, North Carolina, initially expected to find around 300 pigeons in a shed behind a local home but were shocked to discover approximately 550 birds packed inside. Many of the pigeons were emaciated and showed signs of neglect, requiring immediate veterinary care. The rescue involved Guilford County Animal Services and the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, who methodically transported the birds for treatment.

The pigeons are now receiving medical attention, with healthy birds slated for adoption once they recover. Despite the poor conditions, rescuers emphasized focusing on the birds’ recovery rather than assigning blame, noting that the tenant who owned the pigeons was reportedly doing his best. The property is currently vacant, and neighbors were unaware of the large number of birds housed there.
