The 6th Annual NC State 4-H Alumni Showmanship Class took place on July 12 during the NC State 4-H Horse Show, featuring thirteen alumni competitors. The event successfully raised $3,020 for scholarships, contributing to a six-year total of $18,883. These funds support five District 4-H horse councils in providing scholarships and financial aid to deserving NC 4-H members for educational opportunities such as clinics, camps, and shows.
Coy Herbert, a Nash County 4-H alumnus, won the class riding Don’t Kid Me Missy, while Alaina Cross and Double Beam secured second place. Bill Crouse, a Rockingham County leader, earned his second consecutive “Most Fly Alumni” award with an Elvis impersonation. Samantha Taylor raised the highest sponsorship amount, $1,360. Alumni interested in participating in the 2026 showmanship class are encouraged to contact Extension Equine Husbandry for assistance in securing horses, as 4-H members often loan their horses for the event.
