At HOYS 2025, native ponies showcased remarkable versatility and success across a range of Mountain and Moorland (M&M) and non-M&M classes. Standout winners included Thistledown Super Star, who claimed the Welsh section C and overall M&M ridden championship, and Greenholme Kate, a Fell mare who secured her first HOYS win and placed second overall in the M&M championship. Other notable native champions were Trenley Trinket (New Forest pony), Pricklegate Brown Owl (Dartmoor), and Highcroft Romany (Dales), among many others representing breeds like Exmoor, Highland, Connemara, and Welsh sections A to D. These ponies excelled in breed-specific classes, working hunter divisions, and lead rein categories, highlighting the depth of talent and breeding excellence present.
In addition to dominating native breed classes, several native ponies also triumphed in non-native sections, demonstrating their adaptability. For example, Rowfantina Man of the Match and Rowfantina My Buddy, both Welsh section B ponies, won lead rein and show hunter pony classes, respectively, while Connemara pony Tullibards Silver Mine and Shetland Briar Puzzle claimed victories in working hunter and coloured championships. The event celebrated a broad spectrum of native breeds and riders, many achieving personal milestones and emotional victories, underscoring the enduring appeal and competitive spirit of native ponies at the Horse of the Year Show.
