Nation’s First All-Black High School Polo Team Makes Historic Competition Debut

The Atlanta BEST Academy Polo Team, the nation’s first all-Black high school polo team, made its historic competition debut at the 8th Annual Atlanta Polo Party during the 2025 Soul Symphony Weekend, securing a 4-3 victory over the Starr Creek Polo Club. Founded just two years ago for students with no prior polo or horseback riding experience, the team was co-founded by celebrity fashion designer Miguel Wilson through his Ride to the Olympics Foundation, in partnership with the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and BEST Academy. The initiative aims to break socioeconomic barriers that have historically limited Black participation in polo and equestrian sports by providing access to training, equipment, and opportunities.

The fundraising event attracted prominent politicians and celebrities, including Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, highlighting strong community support. BEST Academy’s principal, Robert Williams, praised the program for fostering leadership and excellence among students. Proceeds from the event will continue to support the Ride to the Olympics Foundation’s mission to sustain the Atlanta BEST Academy Polo Team and expand similar youth polo programs nationwide, promoting greater inclusion in the sport.
