National Sports Center for the Disabled Offers Adaptive Outdoor Adventures and Camps in Colorado

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) in Winter Park offers a wide range of adaptive outdoor activities and therapeutic programs for individuals with disabilities, including veterans and active service members. Their summer schedule features horseback riding camps at Snow Mountain Ranch, sailing lessons at Grand Lake, and specialized camps such as Camp on Wheels for wheelchair users, Summer Woods Camp for adults with developmental disabilities, and a spinal cord injury mountain bike camp. Many programs emphasize skill-building, independence, and connection with nature, with costs often subsidized by grants to keep participation affordable.

In addition to general adaptive sports, NSCD provides military appreciation experiences, including mountain biking, hiking, rafting, and horseback riding, with transportation, lodging, and meals included for a nominal fee or free through grants. Other offerings include adaptive climbing and cycling camps, as well as partnerships with YMCA programs for those with cognitive disabilities. These inclusive outdoor adventures promote physical activity, camaraderie, and therapeutic benefits for participants of all ages and abilities. More information and registration details are available at NSCD.org.
