Elaine and Rob Leason, a couple from Driffield who won a £1.4 million share of a National Lottery jackpot in 2005, have long been passionate about Christmas and charity. Since their win, they have been able to dedicate more time and resources to supporting local causes, often dressing as Santa and an elf to deliver gifts. Their charitable efforts span nearly 30 years and include activities such as beach clean-ups, gardening projects at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and delivering hampers to the elderly. This Christmas, they brought festive cheer to the Yorkshire Wolds branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), delivering presents to children using a custom sleigh.
The Leasons expressed their joy in supporting the RDA, highlighting the charity’s impact on improving mental and physical health, confidence, and life skills for disabled children and adults. The RDA serves over 39,000 people nationwide through riding and equine-assisted programs. Gill Butler, chairperson and coach at Yorkshire Wolds RDA, praised the couple’s dedication and the positive effect their visits have on service users, especially during the festive season. The Leasons’ ongoing commitment exemplifies how their lottery win has enabled them to enhance their community involvement and spread Christmas spirit.
