The Murray County Classic Draft Horse Show, now in its 19th year, continues to attract draft horses and audiences from Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Featuring breeds like Belgians, Percherons, Shires, and Clydesdales, the event includes various competitions such as six-horse and four-horse hitch teams, unicorn hitches, obstacle courses, and feed team races. The show was established in 2006-2007 to fill a regional gap in draft horse events, providing exhibitors a chance to prepare for the summer season while offering a family-friendly atmosphere for spectators of all ages.
Board Chairman Brandon Kinney highlights the horses’ enthusiasm for competition and the skill required to drive multiple horses simultaneously, especially in the popular six-horse hitch class. The event runs from July 11 to 13 at the Murray County Fairgrounds, with activities scheduled each day and tickets available at the gate. The show emphasizes community engagement and offers a unique opportunity to see these “gentle giants” perform and interact in a welcoming environment.
