A sessions court in Mumbai sentenced horse handler Sohan Jaiswal to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for his role in the 2017 death of six-year-old Janhavi Mistry, who sustained fatal injuries after falling from a horse during a joyride. Jaiswal was found guilty under section 304-II of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide, primarily due to operating horse rides without a valid license and failing to provide necessary safety equipment.
The conviction was supported by testimony from six witnesses, including the victim’s parents, while the defense argued that poor road conditions and the uncontrollable nature of horses caused the accident. Despite this, the court held Jaiswal responsible for the tragic incident.
