Mufasa Roars to Victory in Mr. Prospector Stakes, Upsetting White Abarrio

Mufasa, a Chilean-bred horse, returned to a seven-furlong sprint and won the $150,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Gulfstream Park, defeating the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner White Abarrio. Trainer Ignacio Correas IV was pleased with Mufasa’s performance, noting that staying sprinting was the right choice for the horse.

Mufasa’s victory was achieved with a sharp break and a perfect stalking position outside Super Chow. White Abarrio, the favorite, had a difficult start and struggled to make up ground, finishing third. Mufasa’s win was never in doubt as he roared to the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front, completing the distance in 1:22.47.

Mufasa’s victory in the Mr. Prospector Stakes was his third win in five starts since arriving in the United States. His overall record stands at 11-0-0 from 15 starts, with earnings of $339,191. Plans for Mufasa include keeping him sprinting and seeing where that takes him in the future.
